In the Aztec legend, the warrior Popocatépetl returned from war to find
his wife dead, he carried her to this place and stood
guard over her. Where he resides today as the volcano Popocatépetl and she
as the volcano Iztaccíhuatl.
The painting is a study from the ashy slopes of the volcano Popocatépetl.
